Some seventy years, it's been now
Since the hammers did rings out
To build this simple little house
The owners were proud, no doubt
To get settled and nestled around the fire
To talk of today and plan for tomorrow
There's fields to harvest and vegetables to can
Raising our babies, the best that we can
That's all this little house has known
Now for many years
It has seen so much happiness
And it's shed many tears
It's watched by generations
The children grow and leave
It's watched the elder be called away
It's watched the families grieve
It finally watched us, the last ones
Decide that it's too old
That it's walls were thin and unsteady
And it couldn't keep out the cold
It watched us leave with sadness
How quite it is now here
The children, they're not playing
Can an Old House shed a tear?
Today I passed by this house
That once was Mom and Dad's
I really got a big surprise
It was no longer sad
Lots of work and cleaning
Being done with loving care
Another generation
Was beginning new life here
Perhaps thgere'll be more children
To run and play with glee
This old, lone, forgotten house
Was as happy as could be
Once again it will weather, all life's storms
And through the years to come
Again it will shelter from the wind
Again it will be called home
