Old and tired penniless and empty
Sitting out in the cold rain and snow
He has his belongings all in a bag
Just aimless and no place to go

The folks that pass by just call him a tramp
Can’t they see there’s a soul down inside
He may be poor but he holds the promise
That Jesus in his heart does abide

It wasn’t his fault that he lost his life’s earnings
His Mary’s hospital bills were to be paid
He gave all he had to let her have comfort
And for six more months she had stayed

Nobody knows unless you have been there
How it feels to be mocked and shunned
But unlike the world Jesus wont judge you
By your riches but by the deeds you have done

The wind blows so cold as he shivers for warmth
With an old army blanket he’d found
He goes deep in thought of a reunion with his Mary
Where he’d never again be let down

They found him there near the Salvation Army
Just another dead homeless man
He had one arm clutched close to his heart
And a picture of Mary in his hand
